Handmade Oriental rug
197 x 154cm (6'6 x 5'1)
The product has not yet been received into our stock in Tewkesbury; therefore, the images are perhaps not as good as our normal images. However, they are actual photographs of the finished rug. Once the rug has been transferred from our warehouse, we will rephotograph it.
Afghan Loribaft rugs are made for the contemporary market with their wide bands of colour which integrate between shades, creating a hombre effect. They are made in the traditional way using vegetable-dyed wool and very often include animals and birds to give it additional character.

The Afghan handmade carpets are becoming very well regarded. This market has been growing quite fast in recent years, emphasising the higher quality knotting and the influence of Pakistan in many of the finishing processes. Such as; initial tensioning to correct alignment issues where the weaver has drifted the wefts causing the pattern to run out. Next, adjustments are undertaken before surface clipping, herbal washing and finally tumbling. This combination of Afghan weaving and finishing in Pakistan has succeeded. These carpets are tightly knotted and usually finished with an unusual bound multicoloured fringe.
The carpets are still hand-knotted, and the wool is coloured with vegetable dye. The Loribaft rug designs can be reminiscent of Gabbeh designs, although the Loribaft pieces are more refined and tightly knotted. The Colours of the Loribaft rugs and carpets are similar to those used in our Samarkand collections, possibly more vibrant. The main distinction is that the patterns are playful, using a defined colour palette and simple design, with stylised animals, plants, trees or characters with block colour often mimicking an ombre effect. Some Loribaft pieces do not have fringes finishing with a plain kilim end or binding, secured to prevent fraying. Other rugs are produced like the Samarkand carpets with an unusual bobbin wind on the warps.
When considering buying online, it is worth thinking about the company's provenance and the rug. We are a family business with over 60 years of experience selling rugs. With an outstanding reputation, we pride ourselves on the level of customer service offered. We welcome visitors to the Tewkesbury shop. Alternatively, we are pleased to assist with online enquiries by email or telephone.
It is worth reminding ourselves that these handmade rugs are unique and special; owning one is something you can enjoy for many years. I would recommend buying a handmade rug produced using the best natural fibre, which is wool.
